Questions

How does the rhyme finder work?

Two words rhyme when they sound the same from their last stressed vowel to the end: day and away, time and rhyme. The finder matches the sounds, not the spelling, so though and snow rhyme and cough and though do not.

Does it find near rhymes and slant rhymes?

Yes, after the perfect rhymes: near rhymes, with the same stressed vowel and consonants that sound alike (time and mine), then looser slant rhymes, with the same stressed vowel and a similar ending (teacher and speaker).

Is this a rhyme generator?

Yes. Rhyme finder, rhyme generator, rhyming dictionary: the same thing, a word in and its rhymes out, by sound. It also lists near rhymes and slant rhymes for songs where a perfect rhyme sounds forced.

Where do the rhymes come from?

From a pronouncing dictionary of English words (Carnegie Mellon University), matched to the words of our dictionary, common words first.
