Snippets Game (Netflix Puzzled): How to Play, Rules and Tips

Snippets is the rectangles puzzle in Netflix Puzzled. The grid shows numbers; cover it with rectangles so that each rectangle holds exactly one number, and that number is the count of cells it covers. When the whole grid is covered, a hidden picture appears. If you know LinkedIn's Patches, the rule is the same.

  • One number per rectangle
  • Number = cells
  • Cover the grid

The rules

  1. 43666

    One number, one rectangle

Every number is the size of one rectangle, and every rectangle holds one number: five numbers, five rectangles.

  2. 43666✓ Right

    The number is the size

A rectangle covers as many cells as its number says. The 4 in the corner takes a 2 by 2; a 4 could also be a 1 by 4.

  3. 43666✗ Not allowed

    Never two numbers in one

A rectangle may not hold two numbers, and rectangles may not overlap. Each cell belongs to exactly one.

  4. 43666

    Cover every cell

The puzzle is solved when every cell is covered. The rectangles then colour in the hidden figure.

From the first rectangle to the picture

A 5 by 5 grid of our own, five numbers:

  1. 43666

The 4 in the corner: 2 by 2, the only shape that keeps the other numbers out

  2. 43666

The 3 along the top edge, then the 6 that fits under it

  3. 43666

Two more sixes fill the bottom: covered, and the picture shows

Where to play, and the controls

  1. Open Netflix Puzzled on iOS or Android, or in a browser at netflix.com/tudum/puzzled. No account is needed.
  2. Tap and drag to draw a rectangle round a number; tap a rectangle to remove it.
  3. The lightbulb either marks a rectangle that is wrong or shows where one can be placed.

Snippets tips: the forced rectangles first

  • Primes are strips

A 1 is a single cell, a prime number (2, 3, 5, 7) is a strip. Draw those first; they have the fewest shapes.

  • Edges and corners first

A number in a corner or against an edge has fewer shapes to choose from. The ones in the middle are settled last, by what is left.

  • Neighbours set the limits

A rectangle cannot reach past another number. Count the cells between a number and its nearest neighbours to see how far its rectangle can stretch.

  • Find the cells only one number reaches

A cell that only one number can reach belongs to that number's rectangle. Spot those cells and the shape is forced.

  • Fix the neighbour

When a rectangle will not fit, the fault is usually the rectangle next to it. Remove that one and redraw both.

Questions

What is Snippets on Netflix?

A logic puzzle in Netflix Puzzled: divide the grid into rectangles so that each holds one number equal to its size in cells. Covering the whole grid reveals a hidden picture.

Is Snippets the same as Patches or Shikaku?

Yes. The rule is the one of the Japanese puzzle Shikaku, also used by LinkedIn's Patches. Netflix adds the picture that appears when the grid is covered.

Can a Snippets rectangle be a square?

Yes. A square is a rectangle; a 4 can be 2 by 2 as well as 1 by 4.

When is there a new Snippets puzzle?

A new daily Snippets arrives at midnight, your local time; the app also has a collection of extra Snippets puzzles.

Snippets is a game in Netflix Puzzled, the puzzle app of Netflix. AWA GAMES is an independent site and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Netflix. The boards on this page are our own.
