Queens tips that solve it faster

  • Start with the smallest region

A region of one or two cells has almost no choice, and its queen closes a row, a column and its neighbours at once.

  • Mark the X's

After every queen, mark its row, its column and the cells around it. The board shrinks quickly and the forced places show.

  • A region inside one line

If a region lies inside one row, its queen is in that row, so no other region can put its queen there.

  • Count regions against rows

When two regions fit inside the same two rows, those rows are theirs, and every other region's cells there can be marked.
