Every row, column and box needs each picture once. Pick an empty cell, then a picture, or tap the cell again to go through them.

How to Play Thanksgiving Sudoku

  1. Choose an empty square. Its row, column and box are lit.

  2. Look at the Thanksgiving pictures already there. The one all three are missing goes in your square.

  3. Tap it below the board. A wrong picture turns the square red. Or tap the square again: each tap puts the next one in.

  4. Stuck? Pick one picture, the turkey, and one row. A square is out if its column or box already has a turkey. The one square left is the turkey's.

  5. Fill the board: every row, column and box holds each picture once.

The Thanksgiving Sudoku Elements

Twenty-four pictures of Thanksgiving, drawn for this game: the turkey and the pumpkin, corn and wheat, a squirrel with its acorn, the scarecrow and an autumn tree, pecan pie, bread rolls and apple cider, the oven and its mitt, a scarf for the cold. Look-alikes such as the pumpkin and the butternut squash, or the cranberries and the jam jar, never share a board.

Questions

What is thanksgiving sudoku?

A Thanksgiving sudoku with pictures of the harvest and the table where the numbers would be. Each row, column and box holds every picture once: four on the 4 × 4, nine on the 9 × 9.

Is it a real sudoku or a colouring game?

A real sudoku. The pictures stand in for digits, so the pumpkin counts like a 3 and the rule is unchanged. Medium and hard are full 9 × 9 sudokus.

Is it a Thanksgiving game for the whole family?

Yes. Easy is a 4 × 4 with four pictures in four colours, quick enough to play at the table with children; medium and hard are for the adults.

Why are the pumpkin and the squash never together?

At the size of a square they look alike: the pumpkin and the butternut squash, the acorn and the squirrel holding one, the cranberries and the jam jar. The game keeps such pairs apart, so every picture is easy to name.

Is there one solution to each board?

Yes. A board is made when you press a level and kept only if the pictures fit one way.

What if I get stuck?

Press Hint: the next picture appears in its square, with the reason. If one of yours is in the wrong place, the hint points to it first.

Are there more picture sudokus?

Yes, nineteen more with the same rules. For the season, Fruit Sudoku, Vegetable Sudoku and Bakery Sudoku are good next boards, and Christmas Sudoku is next on the calendar; each set keeps its own best times.
